The
2017 Victorian State Championship was held in Lilydale at the
MRCCR club over the weekend of the 27-28th January.
Electing to race both 1/8th and
1/10th It was
set to be a busy race meeting.
Qualifying
was ok in both scales, now using an IFMAR based points system it
was important to be consistent. With not much practice time and
the track being quite bumpy I was changing setup between runs
trying to find a good compromise for the finals.
I
secured the 2nd position
in both classes for qualifying also finding a comfortable setup
for the finals.
The
1/10th final
was first up, I managed a good start jumping into the lead,
while managing tyre wear I was relegated to second position,
consistency paid off as I was able to finish in the top position
after the lead car fell due to failure.
Unfortunately
luck did not fall my way in the 1/8th final,
again getting a good clean start I was able to pace myself with
the lead car, coming up to lapped traffic I had an altercation
with a fellow racer resulting in a broken pulley. I managed to
repair and continue to circulate resulting in a 7th place.
I
would like to thank the host club for a great race meeting and
all my fellow competitors.
